The Loreley Myth
The Loreley – Enchantress, Nymph or Femme Fatale
In spring 2022, the municipality of Loreley announced a competition for a new Loreley statue on the Loreley slate rock in the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley, which would reflect the many facets of the myth of the Loreley figure. And since the image of women in today’s society is one of the core themes of my artistic work, there was no question of taking part in this competition.
My design for a modern interpretation of the Loreley figure was shortlisted from 50 participating artists, but in the end the decision was made in favor of another sculpture.
Nevertheless, my version of the Loreley turned out to be a beautiful work, so I decided to produce a series of small sculptures of it.
